ex-HMAS Canberra to be scuttled Sunday 4 October - 9:00 am

The long awaited scuttling of the HMAS Canberra is very close. After a number of postponed dates due to bad weather, the forecast looks good for her to go down on Sunday the 4th of October at 9:00 am.

It is expected the vessel will be towed from the Geelong Grain Wharf on Saturday, 3 October 2009 to the sinking site, and be scuttled at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, 4 October 2009. (Note: daylight savings timeĀ starts this Sunday.)

Should there be a change to the current forecastĀ of suitable weather conditions, an announcement will be made on Friday when the final decision is made.

Watch our article section for a story on the scuttling with photos and video of the action soon. And a new dive site will be born ...
