Deep Sea Detective John Chatterton at OZTeK'07

An underwater adventurer with a passion for researching and diving the deep shipwrecks of the world, John Chatterton, joins the growing cast of internationally renowned diving celebrities giving presentations and talks at OZTeK'07, to be staged at Australian Technology Park, Sydney, Australia on the 17th and 18th March 2007.

A former commercial diver who, for more than twenty years, worked in and around New York City, (and who was actually working in the water underneath the World Financial Center, across the street from the Tower #1, on 9/11/01) John Chatterton made the transition to television and is today one of the co-hosts of the enormously popular television series, Deep Sea Detectives, currently screened on the History Channel.

Although having completed work on an amazing 57 episodes of the successful Deep Sea Detectives series, John is, perhaps, best known for the discovery and subsequent identification of the German submarine U-869, off the coast of New Jersey in 1991. The subject of several television documentaries, including, Hitler's Lost Sub, (a two hour special for the popular NOVA series on PBS) the story has recently been retold by Rob Kurson in the international bestseller, Shadow Divers; a book that 20th Century Fox plan to turn into a movie to be released in 2007.

In 1994, John was a member of the first technical diving expedition to Ireland to dive the wreck of the legendary RMS Lusitani. A few years later, at a depth of 400 feet, he was the first diver to use rebreather diving technology on the wreck of HMHS Britannic, near the island of Kea in Greece.

Shortly after that, he was the sole American on a British expedition, sponsored by the U.S. Holocaust Museum, searching for the historic shipwreck, Struma in the Black Sea near Istanbul. These dives in Turkey were chronicled on the HBO documentary, Struma. Despite this busy schedule, John has still managed to make over 160 dives to the infamous wreck of the Andrea Doria, regarded by many as the 'Mt Everest' of wreck dives.

In August of 2005, John and his partners put together an expedition to the most famous shipwreck of them all, the RMS Titanic. Diving the wreck to a depth of 3,786 meters in the MIR submersibles from the Russian Research Ship, Keldysh, their exploration was featured on the History Channel special, Titanic's Final Moments - Missing Pieces. A project that was a first for John and his long time dive partner Richie Kohler. They produced the program along with their close friend, Emmy Award winner, Kirk Wolfinger.

An opportunity to learn about some of the world's most exciting wreck dives from one of the world's foremost wreck divers and marine archaeologists, John Chatterton's, Deep Sea Detective presentations at OZTeK'07 are not to be missed.
