boss and rebel gear

Hi,

i am relatively new to diving, and at the moment hire most of my gear, i have been looking around for stuff and there are a lot og good options available, one of the best deals i have seen is for a boss or rebel package, including BC, regs and a set of three gauges, all for under a grand.

i am currently diving about once a fortnight, what do others think of these brands and their ability to stand up to it?

thanks

Hi Daffa..I'm relatively new to diving too. You may have already purchased your gear, but if not, one thing to consider is replacement items. It may be better to spend a bit more for quality gear that has a replacement guarantee. I've recently purchased Oceanic gear..it's strong, durable and comes with very good warranties. (...and my mum always said "quality, not quantity")

All the best

Hi guys

Daf, Ask the shop if you can try the gear out. If its comfortable and works well I'd buy it. Generally most new gear would have a warranty so if something goes wrong the shop should replace the item.

Hilary your mum is right 'quality not quantity' but in Daf's case they just want to get underwater and the gear mentioned will do that for them. I drive a Ford Falcon it get me from A to B just as well as a Mercedes.

Cheers

ha! the funny thing about your final comment mongrel is that someone used that analogy on me when it came to buying something the other day, you are right, it is i think about getting into the water.

i did finally make my purchase and didnt end up with either boss or rebel, i instead used the cheap price as a leverage to getting a better price elsewhere, i got an appollo bcd and a set of scuba pro gauges but the advice from both of you certainly was helpful.

Hillary, your mums right too, i suppose it is balance on what you think is also an expendable peice of equipment. eg, i want to get in the water, and am finding hiring costly and inconvenient, but i weighted what it is costing me to rent over a year and thought it was worth being a bit cheap to start, and as i get more comfortable with my gear, and alll, then i can start to get picky and get then maybe individual peices as required, but it wont impact anymore on my ability to dive.

thanks both for your comments
