Air guzzlers

I have seen people diving with enriched air (Nitrox?) and was wondering what the benefits were?
I have been told that you can "stay under longer" but does this mean you get through your air slower and so can stay underwater longer or your just your decompression times are longer. I seem to get through my air very quickly and was hoping this might be an answer?
Thank you.

In answer to your question, all it does is extend your bottome time. An example would be if you were using air if you look at your RDP for 100 foot dive your NDL time would be 20 minutes. With EAN32 it would be 30 minutes and with EAN36 it would be 35 minutes.

Then again I know divers who use enriched air and utilize the air tables just for the safety factor. If you suck air you will still suck nitrox at the same rate.

With more dive time you will become better at your air consumprion. I used to be an air gussler too but I learnt to regulate my breathing and relax when diving. I now consume air at a comparible rate on air to what many divers at the same depth use nitrox. Just beware that using nitrox also has disadvantages in regard to depth. My tip to becoming a better air consumer is to increase your cardio-vascular fitness and any diver will agree that this and you ability to focus your breathing and PRACTISE will mean that you will slowly become a better diver as far as air goes.

Nitrox is good for multiple dives on one day like 5 or six it extends your bottom time and also lowers your nitrogen intake into your body.

The best thing is . Make yourself comfortable in the water streamline yourself dont carry any excess weight which you will be better at with more diving.
