Great article. Extremely informative from a participating perspective. Well written too! I work as an Assisistant Nurse pushing beds in a Private Hospital and enjoy the moments when recreational diving come around in the Wollongong area. I've always wondered about Commercial Diving? I enjoy being in the water so I wonder why I get told "If you enjoy diving, don't do commercial diving..." especially when the idea of making $1000 a day in the least compared to $18 an hour as an 'Ass' Nurse comes to mind. I know I could afford to enjoy more recreational dives in great dives spots around the world on that pay difference. I do worry about the mathematical aspect as Linear subjects are not my strengths...I hate the tables side of diving, but I'm sure most do. I reckon I could have a future as a Safety Diver but with finance being a concern for committment...Anyway, I'm 37 years. Am I too old to enter the 'Commercial' world? I'm thinking I should go to Descend (Albury-Wodonga)to watch everything for a week. New Zealand seems a much cheaper alternative. Also I hear there isn't much work or turnover with Commercialism here in Australia? Cheers Jasonic P.S.All in all, you made diving sound even more exciting.

It has been a few years since my last visit to Tioman Island and after listening to many tales of extensive coral bleaching I was curious to see with my own eyes how bad this really was.
