Traralgon

Traralgon is a thriving commercial and administrative centre in Victoria's energy heartland. A stopping place for drovers during the gold rush, the town has grown to service the surrounding energy, agricultural, pastoral, papermaking and timber industries. Remnants of the gold years are reflected in the architecture of the town, see the Traralgon Post Office, Ryans Hotel and the Ostler House.

Activities and attractions:
- Enjoy a delicious meal in town at one of Traralgon's fine restaurants or sidewalk cafes.
- South-east of Traralgon, visit the Loy Yang Open Cut and Power Station, one of Australia's largest engineering projects. The project represents half of the viable reserves of coal in the Latrobe Valley, which boasts the largest deposits of brown coal on earth.
- Venture further into the Latrobe Valley and take the Power Trail journey that explores Victoria's energy history and electricity in the making
- Visit the nearby Strzelecki Ranges and Tarra-Bulga National Park
- Swim in the temperate waters of Hazelwood Pondage
- Enjoy nearby Morwell National Park, Tyers Park and Moondarah State Park.

Underwater Recommendations

Imagine a landscape made up from granite boulders, drop-offs and pinnacles, coloured by jewel anemones, zoanthids, bryozoans, gorgonians and sea tulips. Yes, the water temperatures can drop to 12°C, but visibility can be up to 45 metres! Swim through kelp and discover Weedy Seadragons. Beautiful sponge gardens and gorgonians harbour sea stars, brightly coloured nudibranchs and sea spiders. Rock lobsters hide under ledges and in caves. Swim and dive with Australian Fur Seals. Swell Sharks, bullseyes, Giant Cuttlefish and Blue Devilfish might be part of the package too.

Traralgon is approximately two hours drive east from Melbourne on the Princes Highway.
