The City offers clean beaches, rural tranquillity, great night life, modern shopping, and a vast array of recreational facilities.

Activities available in Shellharbour City include golf at two major courses, sailing on Lake Illawarra, fishing, surfing, snorkelling at Bass Point, lawn bowls, and bushwalking.

Underwater Recommendations

The diving at Shellharbour is mostly done around Bass Point. Most of the dive sites around here are very suitable for the novice diver. Nevertheless, the more experienced diver should not miss this spot just south of Sydney.
The diverse underwater landscape is formed by kelp beds, rocky outcrops, walls and sand patches and form habitats for an amazing abundance of predominantly temperate marine life. Sessile life includes sponges, fans sea tulips and some coral. The elusive Blue Devilfish can be found hiding under ledges. Different rays, Angelsharks and Port Jackson Sharks live are regularly encountered. Other regulars include Blue Groper, Weedy Seadragons, Giant Cuttlefish, feather stars, several species of nudibranchs and eels.
